Spacebase DF-9 Recoups Indie Fund Investment in Just Two Weeks

November 20, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

In just two weeks time, Spacebase DF-9 has recouped the $400k investment of the Indie Fund.

Spacebase DF-9 has been a successful game for Double Fine, and it's not even finished yet. The game, which was funded by the largest Indie Fund grant to date, has made up its investment of $400,000 in just two weeks. The financial investments of Most Indie Fund games range between $50,000 and $100,000.

According to the Indie Fund organization, 85% of the sales were made through Steam Early Access and 15% went directly through Double Fine's own website.

“This is an important milestone for us because the success of this experiment opens the door for us to support more projects of this magnitude in the future. To be clear, this won’t affect the number of smaller projects we fund. Our bottleneck has always been finding promising projects to invest in, not lack of funds,” the organisation said.

“It also provides an encouraging data point about bringing together larger groups of people to support larger projects, and we are mulling over what this might mean for the future of Indie Fund.”

We wrote our impressions of Spacebase DF-9 in its earliest release state here.
