EA Explains Titanfall’s Absence on PS4

November 20, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Titanfall isn’t a PlayStation 4 game, and EA has come out to explain exactly why that is.

Titanfall won’t be hitting the Xbox One, Xbox 360, or PC until March 11, 2014. That’s a long wait for those picking up new hardware this week, since the Respawn-developed project is one of the biggest and most anticipated pieces of software for the next-generation Xbox. However, PS4 owners will never get a chance to jump from building to building or control a hulking Titan, and EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen recently went into more detail about this “exclusive” agreement.

"That's a process that's been done through the industry for many years," Jorgensen said (via IGN). "There are lots of single-platform titles. Obviously, you work with the first-parties to make sure the economics make sense for all sides, and we made that decision on Titanfall."

Really, there aren’t that many third-party titles not coming to the PS4. That’s an older business practice that doesn’t make as much sense in modern times due to the high cost of development, but EA is doing its best to make sure it has a strong, financially sound relationship with Respawn and Microsoft.

"We're trying to make sure that we've developed a great relationship with them," he said. "We helped them on marketing, we helped them on development where they need it. And we try to maintain a strong partnership with them over time."

Microsoft doesn’t own the Titanfall brand, so you can expect to see the eventually sequel hitting Sony’s platform down the line.
