It’s been a while since we heard anything about Eidos Montreal’s reboot of the beloved Thief series, but finally, we have some new screenshots to share with you, courtesy the Square Enix blog. These screens are from an upcoming mission called Lockdown.
Lockdown is set in the franchise’s eponymous ‘The City’, which has placed itself in a bad spot. The game’s antagonist Baron Northcrest, has just put the entire city on lockdown, presumably to stop a mysterious epidemic, called “The Gloom.” However, there is also an ongoing uprising which the Baron is trying to quell. Garrett finds himself stuck in between a conflict he wants nothing to do with, although maybe, just maybe, it may turn out to be a set of circumstances he stands to benefit from, if he plays his cards right.
Of course, if you are a Thief fan, you know the game has been in development for more than a while. Officially announced since 2009, Thief seemed to have struggled in development for years, and there was much speculation on goings-on behind the scenes, especially after the series showrunner, Stephane D’Astous, left the company after confirming conflicts with management at Square Enix. However, Stephane explained in a later interview that this had no effect on Thief development, which actually progressed to a level that he was satisfied it. Stephane expressed confidence the game would do well in Eidos Montreal’s hands.
These screenshots look promising so far, and we are looking forward to seeing the game in action February 25 next year, for Windows, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
