OK, we understand a very small percentage of the gaming population would be fortunate enough to already have a Playstation 4 in their hands already. But if you were one of the lucky few, and among that group one of the unlucky few who is having the system freezing and bricking, or are fiddling about your preorder with the recent news, we have some troubleshooting tips for you.
You can also try this if the system will not output video, fails to load data from the HDD, will not load into the OS, or cannot load into Safe mode because of corrupted OS data. Of course, make sure to check your HMDI signal before trying any of this.
We make no guarantees that this system will work, but it has been anecdotally confirmed to get bricked PS4’s working again. We will make sure to update this page and/or GameRanx when we come across new information.
1. Unplug the HDD.
2. Boot the console with the HDD detached. It will load into Safe Mode, emitting a white light bar, and will ask for the HDD.
3. Now, turn off the console.
4. Reattach the HDD and boot again.
5. This time the console will boot into Safe Mode in such a way that you will be able to recover the needed OS data. The console will then restart, and boot into the OS again.
6. If this does not work, try to format the HDD and reinstall the firmware.
Finally, one precaution; this fix will do nothing about a defective HDD. You may find the console working again, but unable to download or load games properly.
