Standalone DayZ Might Not be Coming as Soon as We All Thought

November 11, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Server issues are holding the standalone version of DayZ from finally being released on the PC.

The Standalone version of DayZ just isn’t ready to make its debut yet, and while a listing on the Steam database gave players hope, server optimization is holding creator Dean Hall and his team back.

"This is why we are not out. We need performance. Apparently there's some code that can spiral out of control,” Hall said on Reddit. “We don't foresee any delay in release once performance has been achieved."

However, it sounds as if Hall is still shaky on when this performance will actually be reached. There could be setbacks, and that could push the project even further into the cold months of winter.

"People will read into anything, and actually, I'm not saying it will definitely be weeks. Today it almost looked like we had reached the performance target, but the bug we fixed had a more subtle bug hiding behind it,” he continued. "I don't do clues and I never have, if I post a picture take it at face value. It's a picture of three bullets. There's no game in how we release this, we'll just release it."

The “we’ll just release it” model might leave fans in the dark, but that seems to be how Hall intends to handle the project. For now, take a look at some future possibilities for the game, and look for it to release at just about any time in the coming weeks.
