Ever wish you could make your own maps and design your own puzzles in Portal 2? Now you can. With Valve's release of the Portal 2 Authoring Tools, you can endeavor to be more cruel than GLaDOS with mean level designs.
The Portal 2 Authoring Tools is available as a free download for all owners of the PC version of Portal 2 and can be found under the "Tools" tab in Steam.
According to Valve, the same tools were used to make the game itself, and will allow makers to create their own singleplayer and co-op maps, new character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and even music.
The tools include:
- Updated version of Hammer, the Source level editor
- Updated Faceposer
- Example maps and instances to help build new maps
- Updated suite of command-line compiling utilities
Valve would like to remind its users that the software is currently in beta.
