DICE Asserts AntiCheat System Fairfight Is Keeping Cheaters Out Of Battlefield 4

November 4, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Cheaters outed for trying to spread FUD, hackers still unable to crack system.

While complaints about Battlefield 4 being broken amid numerous system issues have been acknowledged by DICE and are being fixed, complaints about anticheat system FairFight are not. Cheaters trying to create noise about Fairfight being broken are being shut down by other players.

In particular, S1ngular1ty over at the official Battlefield forums has collated information on Fairfight. S1ngular1ty had already posted early last week how it automates the process of weeding out cheaters. It has an calculation algorithm in place to check if players are doing too well, based on collected statistics. It then uses the server-side reporting tools to confirm that cheating is going on.

In several follow up statements, DICE has confirmed that Fairfight is working, as all banned players so far have caught clear cheaters. They also boast that hackers have yet to successfully get past the system, partly because DICE hasn’t explained how the system works in full.

DICE clarifies that there is a dispute process in place for players banned by accident. They will get an email informing them of what has happened, as well as the steps needed to take next. On the side, DICE has also caught cheaters trying to spread FUD online, making false claims that they were banned when they were not cheating, asking for refunds and trying to get fans to start a campaign. Players are confirming DICE’s assertions, with many pointing out they are not getting bans for doing the same things banned cheaters are claiming they got kicked out for.

While I am not impressed with DICE’s failure to anticipate the brokenness of the untested portions of Battlefield 4 in the beta, this is not reason to assume they have screwed up other aspects of the game without solid evidence. Assuming you haven’t run across technical issues so far, you can rest assured your Battlefield gameplay experience won’t be ruined by cheaters thanks to Fairfight.
