Oculus Rift Straps to Consumer Heads in 2014

November 1, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

Consumer Oculus Rift scheduled to release sometime in 2014.

Oculus CEO, Brendan Iribe, confirmed that a consumer-ready Oculus Rift unit arrives sometime in 2014.

When speaking with Engadget, Iribe clarified that Oculus plans to release a single Oculus Rift unit that supports both PC operating systems and Android devices. Iribe explained his plans for the Oculus Rift and stated support for a number of devices.

"I think people will be pretty surprised with what set of devices we're able to make this work on. We are focused on just a few right now, basically just to stay focused so that we can deliver a great experience on a couple devices first. Then over time we'll have that span out."

When the Oculus Rift launches players won't shift through a huge library of compatible games, but virtual reality headset unit continues to see support from many developers.

Microsoft didn't rule out future Oculus Rift support and stated the console's open platform when asked about the possibility.
