Blizzard filed for a trademark under the title "Warlords of Draenor," which could possibly name an upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft.
Blizzard first filed the trademark in New Zealand and then followed up with the same registration in Australia. The trademark application references "computer game software" for "entertainment services." MMO Champion notes the website domain, www.WarlordsOfDraenor.com, was registered last month.
World of Warcraft continues to carry the title with the largest MMORPG subscriber base, but over the past year Blizzard continues to lose players at alarming rates.
Lead designer on World of Warcraft, Tom Chilton, explained that without the Mists of Pandaria release Blizzard "would have been in bad shape." When assessing the state of MMORPGs, Chilton agreed that the free-to-play model makes sense.
