Dark Souls 2 Japanese Box Art is Just Stunning

In early 2014, millions of consumers will be enjoying their next-generation hardware. New games with high visual fidelity will be released, greater online functionality will be taken advantage of, and hopefully, all the current rumors about what does and doesn’t work on both the Xbox One and PS4 will be swept under the rug. However, From Software isn’t going to let go of the current-generation without a fight. Dark Souls 2, the sequel to one of the most unforgiving RPGs of the last few years, is going to make that dusty box next to your TV worth turning on again in the spring, and the recently released box art for the Japanese version of the game makes that wait even harder.

We’re unsure at this time whether or not this will be the cover of the game in North American and Europe, but the below artwork for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game is just perfect. The simple color palette, dark tone, and focus on a fallen soldier sums up this franchise quite nicely.

It’s a game with some real style, but there’s much more to this follow-up than just the presentation. There will be plenty of fundamental gameplay changes this time around, as well as an even greater emphasis on PvP. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until March 11 before seeing it all in action.
