There are a few notable big names of the video game industry especially when it comes to Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. Recently, Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, a member that was quite present in various events from Nintendo over the years, has stepped down. Now out of the blue, it seems that Sony Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden has left Sony leaving nothing but a tweet from the official PlayStation account to alert the masses.
It was quite a surprise as Shawn Layden has been with the company for decades as he rose the ranks and held very prominent positions when it came to Sony Interactive Entertainment. For instance, he replaced the CEO and president position and has been present at various expos to alert the masses of what is coming down the road for Sony.
Now that he has left, we’re wondering who will be filling his shoes. Likewise, we’re wondering how long this has been planned and if there is a reason behind the leave. We’re close to the end of 2019 and it’s expected that the PlayStation 5 will be unveiled soon so it is a bit of a surprise to see the head figure make his way out. The tweet doesn’t offer anything other than the announcement of his departure along with warm wishes to his future endeavors.
At any rate, the chairman has put his share of work and efforts into Sony. Whether if he takes on a new venture or simply enjoys the retirement remains to be seen. We’re of course wondering just what will come next for the former chairman. With Reggie gone and now Shawn Layden, will we see Microsoft’s Phil Spencer join the departure bandwagon?
