Command and Conquer, previously titled Command and Conquer: Generals 2, completely halts production as Electronic Arts shuts down its developer Victory Games.
An official statement in the Command and Conquer website reads:
"Part of being in a creative team is the understanding that not all of your choices are going to work out. In this case, we shifted the game away from campaign mode and built an economy-based, multiplayer experience. Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play. That is why, after much difficult deliberation, we have decided to cease production of this version of the game. Although we deeply respect the great work done by our talented team, ultimately it’s about getting you the game you expect and deserve."
It was also mentioned all of the money spent by players on the alpha test of the game will be fully refunded over the next 10 days. This is saddening news especially when Jon Van Canegham, Victory Games' general manager, recently spoke about how he believes Command and Conquer can potentially last for about 10 years.
It is still unclear what the future holds for the whole Command and Conquer franchise. However, it was noted that alternatives are being looked into and news will be shared about the franchise once it develops.
Command and Conquer was officially rebranded last year as a free-to-play and online real time strategy video game. It was targeted to be released on Microsoft Windows platforms.
