The Xbox One’s Kinect won’t sit atop your TV, collect every bit of your personal information, and send all the juicy bits about your life to the government. At least, that’s what Microsoft is promising won’t happen when the hardware launches Nov. 22. There’s still a segment of the community that’s concerned about their privacy, though, and don’t feel quite right about a camera sitting in the room while they’re enjoying their favorite Xbox One products. The peripheral is no longer required for the machine to work, but there is a third-party option for those who want the Kinect plugged in and still want to eat a full tube of Pringles without a piece of hardware passing judgment.
A third-party TV mount is being sold on Amazon that will come with a privacy cover. Manufacturer PDP will include a camera blindfold in its clip mount, with the purpose of blocking both RGB and IR sensors. It’s scheduled for a December launch, and will only run buyers $19.99.
“It's fast and easy to install, requiring no tools. Perfect for flat panel HD TVs. The privacy cover protects your privacy by blocking both the RGB and IR cameras," read the description, spotted by Polygon.
Will you need the cover? It all depends on your level of comfort with the Kinect. If you feel that your privacy is at risk with the motion camera attached, the mount might just be the perfect solution.
