As revealed in the Playstation 4 trailer named 4 The Gamers, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Watch Dogs exclusive content for the console has turned out to be timed exclusive content, and not completely limited to Playstation users. Ubisoft has yet to elaborate if this was meant to be the case all along, or if it was a last minute change by the developer.
This extra content amounts to an extra hour of gameplay, allowing you to take on the role of an older Aveline de Grandpré, star of Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation. Meanwhile, the Watch Dogs exclusive content consists of four missions, a costume, and a minor hacking improvement.
Ubisoft had it rough last week, after confirming in their conference call that Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Rayman Legends sold far below expectations, and subsequently delaying Watch Dogs. The not inconsequential fallout saw Ubisoft’s stock dipping 22 percent.
It would not be far-fetched to assume that Ubisoft’s strategies for rallying back and reassessing projects has included reconsidering the exclusivity of the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag content. Rather than taking sides between consoles, the company may have decided it was more important to get their investment back in as many ways as possible, including spreading it to a wider userbase. Sony fans will still be able to boast six month exclusivity for the content, but at least they are not the only gamers who can look forward to it.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagwill be released on Wii U, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on October 29, Playstation 3 on November 15, Windows on November 19, and Xbox One on November 22. Watch Dogs is coming on Windows, Wii U, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in the second quarter of next year.
