Slightly Mad Studios has updated the Project CARS blog in commemoration of their anniversary. The game is still slated for release next year on PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii U, and the company, as well as their partners in the WMD community, have put the extended development time to good use.
First off, for those who may still not have been caught up, the developer has been cleared of FSA investigation, after agreeing to stop accepting additional crowdfunding, as well as guaranteeing refunds at any time. You can read our original coverage of that story here.
Within a year’s time, the studio has managed to snag even more high-profile partners, including Mercedes-Benz, RUF, and Oreca. Lewis Hamilton’s brother Nicolas Hamilton has also signed up, and joins Stig Ben Collins as real life motorsports consultant. Aside with that, they have entered into new relationships with Steam, Panasonic, and Nvidia, to expand on the game’s possibilities on PC. Of course, publishing in Valve will allow them to offer a beta, and will provide them with multiplayer features. On Panasonic’s end, their new 4K TVs are designed to show off the game’s graphics capabilities to its maximum. You can check out our coverage of that here.
Of course, Slightly Mad Studios also loudly trumpets the contributions their community of backers/codevelopers have provided to make the game as good as it can be. When you think about it, the WMD initiative has been just as successful raising the manpower behind this game to AAA dev studio levels as much as it has been in raising money, and the former may secretly be the more important resource after all.
You can check out a new trailer for Project CARS, filmed in 1440 (most of that quality lost to YouTube, sadly) below.
