Wii U Version Of Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut Gets An Early 91 Metacritic Rating

October 22, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

The game’s overwhelmingly positive reception makes it a must have for console owners.

Eidos’ Wii U version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut was the subject of a lot of grief from Nintendo fans, with perennial delays and the loss of console exclusivity taken as slights against the fanbase. Wii U owners should gripe no more, however, as Metacritic rates the game at a 91, possibly making it one of the console’s highlights for the year.

A Metacritic is not much more than the sum of its parts, of course, and the game has five reviews on it so far, but the overwhelming positive reaction to it this early should indicate it is unlikely to disappoint. The reviews do make note that in its original form, Human Revolution was and continues to be an amazing game. While the story is not universally loved, everyone agrees the gameplay is what makes it a must have. This version is also great value for having all the DLC incorporated in.

Among the game’s more important tweaks relate to providing the player more options in resolving situations. You can now finish the game without killing almost anyone, reminiscent of the original. The only enemies that need to be killed are the bosses, an unfortunate quirk of the storyline itself, but now, you won’t have to shoot it out one on one to take them out.

The Gamepad’s second screen features also elevate the game to new heights. While the controller now shares its map, inventory, and Infolog features with the Vita and Smartglass, it still does not come together as well as it does on the Wii U’s unique controller. A reviewer on PS3 has already called out using the Vita as a lesser experience.

In truth, the game is only half the story here. Wii U owners have been hungry for good 3rd party games for months, and among fans, resentment was growing over the game’s delay, the loss of exclusivity, and more recently, the announcement of the $ 40 retail price.

However, there should be no question here: Eidos has made the definitive version of Deus Ex Human Revolution on the Wii U, and they have justified the premium placed on it. Fans of the game can save money buying Director's Cut on a different platform. However, to really enjoy Human Revolution at its best, they have to play it on the Wii U.
