The Nintendo exclusive, Super Smash Bros., has a massive following ever since it first released back on the Nintendo 64. Since then, we’ve seen several installments released into the market, adding more and more characters, stages and game modes. However, the heart of the game remained the same as players could take the role of a familiar Nintendo character and battle against computers and friends. There have been attempts to deliver a similar style experience with other characters and franchises, but none have really captured the joy and essence that Nintendo has with their series.
Sony had even thrown their hat into the ring by offering players a game called PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. This particular video game title released back in 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. With it came a slew of Sony classic characters such as Kratos, Sackboy, Sly Cooper, and Nathan Drake. However, the game didn’t release with much success and as a result, the game kind of ended up nowhere. Some of you may have even forgotten this title existed, but if a rumor is believed to be true, Sony is still interested in giving this game another go.
A post from 4chan is making its rounds where a supposed Capcom employee alerted the world that they are in works with development for a sequel. Apparently, if the rumor is true, the sequel will be releasing for the PlayStation 5 and it will include a nice mixture of characters within the roster including the previous cast mentioned earlier along with Aloy, Crash Bandicoot, Kat, Jill Valentine, Ellie among several others.
While we try to avoid rumors as best we can, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Sony offer a competitor against Super Smash Bros. There is certainly a wide cast of Sony characters that could be represented in the game and with the criticisms received from their first attempt, the developers could tweak the game for something a bit more appealing.
