This might come as a surprise, but people really like Pokemon – maybe even more than we first thought. It might seem pretty obvious that the release of a new “Gotta Catch ‘em All” simulator on Nintendo’s most popular piece of current hardware would spark a bit of interest, but the sales figures released by the company this morning are likely even bigger than most people would expect.
In a matter of just two days, Pokemon X and Y pushed more than 4 million units across Japan, Europe, and the Americas. Those are some sterling numbers, even if the handheld products couldn’t oust Grand Theft Auto 5 from the top of the charts in the U.K. The press release with these figures also has a choice quote from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.
“The early response to Pokemon X and Pokemon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokemon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers is eager to experience the franchise for itself,” Iwata said.
It’s a big success for Nintendo, and one of the highest rated Pokemon games to be release in quite some time. If you’ve already picked one of the two versions up and want some advice on how to make it through the game, we have a full guide ready and waiting to be viewed.
