At this point, it looks as if Grand Theft Auto 5 is an unstoppable force that only a product as massive as Call of Duty can topple. Rockstar Games’ highly regarded open-world title saw another strong sales period last week in the UK, outstripping both Beyond: Two Souls and Pokemon X and Y during both of their debut weeks. Not too bad for some washed-up criminals.
Exact numbers weren’t given for the UK all-format chart, but it was GTA 5 that managed to take the top spot from previous kingpin FIFA 14. Pokemon X claimed the third spot, with Pokemon Y barely trailing behind it. Beyond managed to make the fifth spot, despite seeing some truly mixed critical response.
There are a couple of interesting figures to keep in mind when looking at the sales results, though. If you combine the sales of X and Y, Game Freak’s first Pokemon 3DS experiences would have taken the top spot. It’s also worth noting that while the Nintendo products didn’t take first place, they did just about double the numbers seen from last year’s Black and White 2.
The big names continue to sell, and if you participate in any sort of social media, you’ve likely seen the Pokemon crowd happily Tweeting or posting about the new experience. If you’re in that portable bubble, you can take a look at both our tips and tricks guide and the TM locations guide.
