Due to all the technical issues that Grand Theft Auto Online has suffered since its Oct. 1 launch, developer Rockstar Games has promised its fans a stimulus package worth $500,000 of in-game currency. That’s a hefty chunk of change, but unfortunately, it might not be enough to buy back all of the time some players put into a character that was soon deleted. Thousands of online gamers found their rank and cash wiped during the first few weeks of play, and there’s no fix that will bring that progress back.
"For those that are still having any technical issues, as mentioned above there is a title update coming next week that will include more fixes including the vehicle loss one," the developer wrote in a comment on its website. "And we will remain committed to continuing to fine-tune the game to address any and all issues to get GTA Online running as smooth as possible.
"For those asking about their lost characters or rank, those will not be able to be restored so we sincerely hope that this cash stimulus we're giving out this month will help you get back on your feet or to make your new life in Los Santos & Blaine extra sweet."
Once again, $500,000 is nothing to scoff at, but there was a certain segment of the audience that put dozens of hours into GTA Online before losing all that data. It’s a messy situation, and one that Rockstar hopes to amend in the coming days.
