While many fans expected Retro to develop a Metroid title for the Wii U, Retro instead opted to develop another Donkey Kong title after releasing Donkey Kong Country Returns towards the end of the Wii's life cycle. After the announcements for games like Donkey Kong, Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World, Nintend explained their purposely held back game announcements.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will release on the Wii U February of 2014.
