GTA Online Xbox 360 and PS3 Temporary Fix Surfaces

October 4, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

This won’t work for everyone, but it is worth a try. We include instructions for clearing your cache on both consoles.

We have uncovered a fix that can work to allow you to play through Grand Theft Auto Online for both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 now. Of course, this fix is not guaranteed to work, but for eager players who can't wait for the patch, it is worth a try.

So, this is what the OP suggests:

  1. Go to Game Data.

  2. Delete the 1.01 patch. It is around 39 mb.

  3. Start the game over and redownload the patch.

  4. Enter single player.

  5. Go to the online menu and begin a friends-only game. You will now be able to complete the tutorial missions.

  6. Afterwards, go back into single player and then enter a regular online game.

There is disagreement in the follow up comments if you should also clear the cache. If you do want to try that as well, you will want to clear the cache before you start redownloading the update.

Here is how you delete the system cache for both systems:

Xbox 360:

  1. Press the Guide button, go to Settings, and then System Settings.

  2. Select Storage or Memory.

  3. Highlight any storage device, and then press the Y button.

  4. Select Clear System Cache. This will delete the cache for all storage devices, so no worries.

  5. When you get the prompt to confirm storage device maintenance, choose Yes.

PS3:

  1. Press the Start Button to bring up the Menu Pad.

  2. Choose Options > Cache > Clear Cache. When the process is done, your PS3 will automatically restart Home.

  3. If this doesn’t work, you will want to delete and reinstall the Home Save files.

  4. Back up your save files manually.

  5. From Home, quit and exit.

  6. From the XMB, go to Game > Save Data Utility.

  7. Choose the Home Save files. There will be one main file and one for each personal space it entered.

  8. Select one of these files and press the Triangle button > Delete.

  9. Repeat for all Home save files.

  10. Restart Home.

Hopefully, this covers everything you need. Rockstar has promised a great online experience, and I'm sure many of you feel that this is worth the hassle. Good luck!
