DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson has come out with official release details for the Battlefield 4 Beta. If you’ve preordered, you’ll want to read what follows below.
So the beta will use the Siege of Shanghai map, in Karl’s words, the most ambitious map they have made yet. The map will let them fight on foot, in helicopters and attack boats. Levolution will also be a factor, allowing you to take down entire skyscrapers and react to them.
Karl reemphasizes that this is a beta. Primarily, the beta is intended to test DICE’s infrastructure, handling server loads, matchmaking systems and the like. Similarly, they want beta players to provide feedback so they can make the final product better. Karl also points out that the beta is actually an older build, so you really should not expect it to look like the final game.
The beta will be generally live 24/7. They will occasionally have downtime and restart servers. They will keep players updated via the Battlelog.
About getting into the beta, Battlefield 3 Premium members, as well as registered owners of Medal of Honor Warfighter special editions and people who preordered the Battlefield 4 PC Digital Deluxe Edition get access to the Exclusive Beta starting today. The Open Beta, which will be free to download for people on Xbox Live, PSN and Origin.com, as well as everyone else mentioned above, will be available October 4 to 15. Note that your PC needs to be running a 64-bit OS.
Cheaters, of course, will be monitored using several tools, including PunkBuster, Gameblocks and Fairfight. Finally, everyone who participates in the beta will get this special dog tag.
Have fun in the beta guys!
