The official Dayz forum lit up with news of the release of CaribouZ, a mod that allows you to play ARMA2 terrain Caribou Frontier for DayZ.
Isla Caribou is an old abandoned island, caught in the crossfire between Russia and America in the search for oil. In the original ARMA2 universe, the island becomes a major battlezone, when large oil deposits are found within as the global supply of oil itself starts dwindling. The factories are abandoned as military forces start coming in.
Of course, in DayZ it is the Virus which won out in that conflict, and it has overrun the island. In this scenario, you are a survivor who originally worked in Isla Caribou before the war. You lost your family long ago, and have now found your way back here. This time around, you know the undead are waiting for you, but they are not the only ones…
CaribouZ is an early release, so there are known bugs, as well as a few features that have yet to be added to the game. Furthermore, there are no current plans to release the serverfiles. All the elements found in the servers, such as the vehicles and pay-to-win starter gear, don’t fit in with the map, and would basically ruin the point of making the mod. While servers aren’t completely out of the question, don’t expect to play in them soon.
Isla Caribou seems like a unique backdrop for DayZ, and the alleged appearance of military forces also switches things up. Who’s willing to bet DayZ is going to have a Tar Man straight out of Return Of The Living Dead hiding somewhere? You can get the mod in the link below.
