The Splatoon franchise has been popular since it released on the last-generation platform, the Nintendo Wii U. Currently, the game has Splatoon 2 being supported with new updates and content, but fans have been wondering when we may see Splatoon 3 hit the marketplace. Unfortunately, it looks like we may be a way off from any sort of Splatoon 3 video game reveal. In a recent issue of Famitsu, Splatoon series producer, Hisashi Nogami, stated that the series future is currently not being considered at the moment, but only because the focus is on supporting Splatoon 2 with content.
As it turns out, Splatoon 2 went into development as soon as Splatoon first hit the market. One the game released, the developers started crafting up ideas and new mechanics for Splatoon 2. Now that the sequel is available and has been out for a couple of years, you might have wondered if a third installment is in development for the Nintendo Switch. Hisashi Nogami revealed that there is currently nothing in the works, but the producer did state that the team would like to return the favor to all those who have enjoyed and supported Splatoon 2 since it launched.
It seems that the developers are too busy with updates to move into a phase where they can consider a Splatoon 3 installment. Perhaps if an active community continues to fill up matches for Splatoon 2 may give the developers an incentive to move onto the next installment sooner than later. In case you haven’t played Splatoon 2, this is a third-person shooter where players control anthropomorphic squids as they attempt to cover the map with their team’s ink color. Currently available on the Nintendo Switch, Splatoon 2 has been well-received and you can check out our thoughts on the game within our Before You Buy episode upload above.
