We love to see crazy, likely impossible feats pulled off in video games. Shooting down a helicopter and then jumping from a building to the top of a giant mech might not sound too easy to pull off, but that doesn’t really matter when you're behind the controller. However, most of the massive, setpiece moments in games like Call of Duty or Battlefield take control away from the player. These memorable scenes simply make the player a helpless onlooker, and it seems that Respawn Entertainment wants to change that with Titanfall.
Speaking with community manager Abbie Heppe, Xbox 360 Achievements delved a bit deeper into the narrative elements of the Xbox One title in order to understand just what players will actually be able to control.
“The campaign multiplayer missions all have intros as well as these crazy escape portions at the end to give a sense of something beginning and ending,” Heppe said. “During the match, there are characters that help you through and tell you what is going on in order to provide even more context about the world and what's going on around you.
“More than just that, though, we wanted to give gamers the crazy moments that you would have if you were in these situations. I guess these are the kinds of moments in single player games where designers would wrest control away from you and force you to look in a certain direction. We don't want to do that because we don't want to break the gameplay experience that you're having.”
It might not match Call of Duty sales with its first release, but Titanfall is making sure that it gives players the ability to control all the big moments.
