While most of us seem to be impressed by GTA 5's sales figures—it's expected to rack up over a billion dollars in revenue in just one month—Fable and Populous creator Peter Molyneux isn't impressed by the numbers.
Speaking at a mobile innovation conference with Mobile Entertainment last night, Molyneux stated: "The newly released Grand Theft Auto V is a game that's everywhere, you can hardly avoid it. It will achieve around $1 billion in revenue on consoles in just one month.
"Sounds impressive, doesn't it? No. That's not impressive."
Just what does Molyneux mean by that, exactly? Well, he went on to point out that games like Clash of Clans and Hay Day were making between 3 to 5 million dollars each day.
"I started in the games industry working with the Amiga and Atari ST, then opening and selling a number of companies before creating a game called Fable, which was acquired by Microsoft. It seemed as though the journey was coming to an end for me. I thought Fable games were doing really well making $150 million.
"But then that bastard Steve Jobs stood up on stage and changed my life forever with a flick of a screen. I realised then that the most innovational thing that you can do is change the way people interact with entertainment.
Molyneux then went on to explain why he started his new venture 22cans and how he plans to create new forms of entertainment, and his experiences with the mobile game Curiosity.
So what do you think? Does the man have a point?
