Grand Theft Auto 5 is the Fastest Selling Game in the UK Ever

Grand Theft Auto 5 is the fastest selling game in history in the UK with 1.57 million copies sold in the country in just 24 hours according to MCV.

GfK Chart Track reports that GTAV generated £65 million ($103 million) in the UK on launch day alone suggesting that the estimated worldwide revenue for the game during its first month of $1 billion is certainly achievable.  

Rockstar has broken the record set by Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops which sold 1.41 million units in the UK in November 2011 raising £58 million ($92.6 million). 

Over 2,000 high street retailers in the UK opened their doors at midnight for the launch. The massive success of the game in the UK stands as a remarkable feat for the country's games industry – Grand Theft Auto 5 was developed by Scottish outfit Rockstar North – and for the country's game retail sector which has been struggling for some time. 

In the US, three men were arrested for impersonating police officers at a midnight release event for Grand Theft Auto 5.
