Monster Hunter 4, 3DS Overwhelm Japan Sales Charts

Media Create numbers this week show the strong debut of Monster Hunter 4, AKB 1/149: Love Edition, and Brothers Conflict: Brilliant Blue.

I have written a bit about all three games before. To be brief, Monster Hunter 4 is the latest installment in Capcom’s killer franchise, while AKB1/149 and Brothers Conflict are dating sims for guys and girls, respectively.

The big story this week, of course, is the spectacular performance of Monster Hunter 4, which we did get hints about in the earlier Tsutaya sales charts. Now, to put this in perspective, the title has sold 16 times as much as all the other Top 10 games for the month combined, and the 3DS sold 9 times more than all the other consoles combined.

Personally, I think Monster Hunter just benefited from having so much momentum coming in without any serious contenders at the same time, and also from being exclusive to the 3DS, making all the fans focus on getting the game just for the one console.
