Crew Mode, one of the most popular features in the NBA 2K franchise, will be making its long-awaited return in 2K14. A redesigned shooting, dribbling, and blocking system has allowed the development team to balance and tweak the core mechanics of the series to a point where they feel comfortable reinstating this competitive, online component last seen in NBA 2K11, and a handful of new details have just emerged on Facebook that paint a pretty clear picture of just what crews are all about this year.
The first thing to note is that players will be using their MyCAREER personalities in Crew Mode, giving a more personal feel to each and every pickup game. Games will either be 3v3 on half-court, or 5v5 on full-court, with both being played on blacktop to replicate what it’s like to play on the streets.
If you have a specific crew name in mind, it’s important to claim that moniker before it’s too late. An original team name will help add character to your group of ballers, along with a unique team abbreviation and city. However, the individual can be represented through a deep system of jersey customization, which allows for dozens of colors and logo designs. Once your crew has a look, it’s off to the courts to build a reputation. New online leaderboards make it easy to figure out just who’s the best street team in the world, so be sure to choose the individual pieces around you wisely.
If this is the mode you’ve been waiting years for, don’t forget that NBA 2K14 will be available on Xbox 360 and PS3 Oct. 1.
