People want to buy the PlayStation 4 this fall. Thanks to smart marketing and a powerful piece of hardware, Sony is in a strong position leading up to the generational shift, and the company knows it. However, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jack Tretton isn’t interested in selling out every PS4 right off the bat. He wants the general public to have the opportunity to pick the device up in stores, and in a recent interview with Fox Business, admits that some units will be held back initially.
“We want to make sure that consumers have an opportunity to buy one on November 15, and through the holidays, so we're holding back some inventory to make sure that people will have an opportunity to buy one,” Tretton said.
The unbelievable demand will make this launch not only a homerun for the PlayStation maker, but the biggest console release in the company’s history.
"We can pre-sell every unit we can manufacture," Tretton continued. "Production yields have been phenomenal, so this will be, by a magnitude of a lot, the biggest launch we've ever had.
“There's so much pent-up demand for it that you could sell every one that you could create."
The PlayStation 4 will launch in North America Nov. 15, with Europe seeing the hardware hit retailers Nov. 29. Some of the most notable exclusives include Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, and DriveClub, but you can also look forward to what seems to be an endless lineup of indie games in the future.
