Unlike most MMORPGs, The Elder Scrolls Online will include three opposing factions instead of the normal two. To balance each faction and the PvP battles that will ensue, ZeniMax implemented a number of safe guards to keep things fair.
To avoid over populating one faction, each faction of the Ebonheart Pact, Aldmeri Dominion and the Dagger Fall Covenant will limit how many people can join. With a balanced amount of players in each faction, wars will ensue that make for some interesting tactics.
Since each faction fights for their own desires, they must deal with the opposing two factions. Should the Dagger Fall Covenant and the Aldmeri Dominion team up, the Ebonheart Pact will find themselves outnumber 2:1. But teaming up may cause future problems. In the middle of a fight, factions can backstab each other at any moment, either causing a free-for-all or a new formed alliance.
PvP will feature large scale, faction battles and even a 1 on 1 confrontation. Since some quests will naturally pit your faction against another, you can carry that fight further and defeat any roaming players.
