Call of Duty is Still ‘More Science Than Science Fiction’

September 11, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Despite space combat trailer game remains in the ‘realm of possibility’.

Yesterday Activision released a trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts which community manager Dan Amrich insists is still "in the realm of possibility."

Despite showing space based combat and kinectic bombardment or 'Rods from God' Amrich says the game is "more science than science fiction".

He pointed to the fact that US Air Force has considered using the technology which involves dropping a heavy projectile on an enemy from space with the weapon being pulled towards its target by the force of gravity without the risk of nuclear fallout.

Amrich wrote:

"Say what you will about its over-the-top gameplay and action-movie attitude, but Call of Duty still plays in the realm of plausibility."

In the trailer we see a projectile being fired at the United States and a voice over comments, "You never expect something you trust to turn against you. The rods didn't just decimate the land, they left us open to full-scale invasion."

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on November 5th. The game will be coming to PS4 on November 15th in North America and November 29th in Europe while the Xbox One edition will be released on November 22nd worldwide.
