Grand Theft Auto 5 is almost here, and it’ll likely be one of the biggest releases of the console generation. Millions of players are looking forward to experiencing the campaign first hand, but the multiplayer experience will also be a major component of Rockstar’s flagship title. It will take a couple more weeks before players can drive their way across online cities, but the studio is hoping to bring years of fun to players without any chance of tedium setting in.
Speaking with Game Informer, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies discussed how the team is looking to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world. It’ll be constantly updated and tuned, and everything that the team manages to accomplish in this world will be able to be explored by every player.
It’s an idea that’s been boiling over for a decade, and the upcoming product is something Rockstar seems proud to ship.
"Grand Theft Auto Online has been in our minds for a long time – since we started on Grand Theft Auto 3," he said. "We've always wanted to create a world with the complexity of a single-player Grand Theft Auto game with the addition of real players. We wanted a world where people could spend years without getting bored of playing the same content over and over.
"I think we've managed to achieve something very close to our dream."
Get ready: GTA 5 hits stores Sept. 17, with the entire online world launching as a free download two weeks later.
