Naughty Dog has had a number of iconic video game hits over the years and the development studio is known for delivering PlayStation exclusive titles. Right now the focus may be on The Last of Us Part 2, but you best believe that there is still plenty of gamers out there waiting on a potential Uncharted 5. One particular person who is fine with there not being an Uncharted 5 is Nathan Drake himself, or at least the voice actor who portrays the character. In a recent interview, Nolan North spoke of his time as being the actor to play such an iconic role and how it would be fine if we never get another chance to see him again.
Uncharted was a massive hit but that was apparently something that Naughty Dog couldn’t tell right from the start. Nolan North spoke with OnlySP and stated that the development of the first title was uncertain if it would have the support to really be fleshed out into a full series. But because the title became a hit, Naughty Dog was able to produce four main installments where Nolan North got to take the Nathan Drake character in all sorts of new adventures and areas.
It wasn’t until the fourth one kind of started that there’s no fifth one and you’re going ‘Okay, what’s next?’ But you don’t want to jump the shark … It was bittersweet to end the franchise, but we’re proud of what we’ve made, and if that’s the way that Sony and Naughty Dog decide to leave it, then I’m fine with that.
But when Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End released, it was clear to Nolan that at the time, there was no going back and bringing out a new installment afterward. Some fans are fine with Nathan Drake no longer being featured in the franchise in general but it does seem that Nolan North is holding out hope. At any rate, during the interview, Nolan stated that if Sony and Naughty Dog decide to leave the franchise alone or the character, then he would be fine with their decision.
