Sony has announced a slimmer, lighter PlayStation Vita model which will go on sale in Japan on October 10th. A Western release window has not yet been announced.
It will include 1BG of memory meaning you won't need a card for smaller downloads and game saves. However, Sony has also announced a 64GB memory card for the system.
Sony said that the new new Vita has been designed to be "more casual and friendly for a wider range of users".
The new model will be just 15 mm in width – 20 per cent smaller than the current model – and weighs in at 219g, meaning it's 15 per cent lighter.
The redesign offers a boosted battery which allows for up to six hours of gameplay. The screen of the devices will now be an LCD rather an OLED however.
Explaining the decision Sony commented:
"Thanks to the rapid progress of LCD technology in recent years, the new display provides users with the highest-level image quality, perfect for deep and immersive gaming experience that is at the core of PS Vita."
Sony are offering the handheld in yellow, pink, white, grey, lime green, and light blue.
Also today, Sony announced a $100 PS Vita TV device which allows users to play 1,300 Vita, PSP, and PS One games.
