DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach came on board Jackfrags to address some common questions about Battlefield 4. We’ll round up some of his answers here. Feel free to hit up the link to catch his 24 minute interview if you’re so inclined.
Regarding the netcode, Bach explains that a game with the level of complexity as Battlefield 4 will never have 100 % perfect netcode. In fact, he contends that this is precisely the reason other devs don’t try to make games like it. He does affirm that DICE has looked into improving the netcode and players should notice it when they get to playing.
Commander Mode had a lot of baggage connected to it. Bach confirmed that players can now mutiny poor commanders, and to add pressure, the game itself now scores commander performance, and everyone can see this at any time. As with many other options, the mode an always be disabled on the server side. As a rule, DICE would rather not deal with game fixes on the server side, but if there are issues with online multiplayer that affect gameplay, they will go ahead and allow you to toggle enabling and disabling options.
Bachalso addressed concerns with privacy and DDOS attacks. Actually, he claims DICE did not notice a seriously high number of hacked accounts, at least not enough to cause concern. He reaffirms that players should take care to secure their own accounts on their end to keep from getting hacked.
Commander Modehas a new option that allows you to single out enemies as High Value Targets. DICE thinks the idea of High Value Targets is cool in general, and it is baked into Commander Mode. Players who don’t want to deal with it should likely not even enter Commander Mode.
Finally, Bach was asked about submarines and dinosaurs, but he remained noncommittal about all of them. For now, Battlefield 4 is not about to go Saints Row crazy, but it does seem like they are looking into these, so keep your eyes peeled.
