The streaming giant Netflix has announced that they will be adapting one of Capcom’s big franchises Dragon’s Dogma into an anime series.
This will be Netflix’s third big anime adaption of a video game, we already saw the rise and success of Konami’s Castlevania series; perhaps Capcom’s hit RPG can follow suit. The new acquisitions of Anima, Sublimation, and David Production will help produce new animated shows like Dragon’s Dogma, Altered Carbon: Resleeved, and SPRIGGAN.
Netflix Director of Content (Japan), John Derderian had this to say about the new productions:
“Netflix aims to be the most compelling and attractive home for anime fans, creators and production studios. We are creating an environment where production houses can do their best work, and deliver their shows on a service where we connect anime fans from over 190 countries to content they love”
Dragon’s Dogma – Sublimation Inc.:
Based on a world-famous action RPG set in an open world, Dragon’s Dogma from CAPCOM will be brought to life as a Netflix original anime series. The story follows a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an ‘Arisen’. An action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans.
Netflix has been a major powerhouse in the anime division as of late. Last year alone we got to see some great anime titles like Devilman Crybaby and Castlevania. We also are waiting on the upcoming Devil May Cry anime series that will tie into the Castlevania universe.
The streaming service has been hitting on all fronts as of late, so we’ll have to wait and see if Dragon’s Dogma turns out to be another success for them. Are you a fan of the franchise? Let us know what you think about the anime announcement down below!
