Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 YouTube Trailer Invites Us To Explore

September 2, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Official website also updated with similar html5 based interface.

Square Enix has just released a new trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13, and along with it, updated their official site, allowing you to take a twine like journey to the game world.

In the short two minute video, Lightning talks briefly to Hope, before setting off into the transporter. And then, taking full advantage of Youtube, the video shares links to different parts of the game world, Luxerion, Yusnaan, The Dead Dunes and The Wildlands.

In the Luxerion video, Lightning drops off into a train station, as Hope explains what is going on in the metropolis.

In Yusnaan, we get to see the city’s colorful night time lights and nightlife. This clip ends with Lightning going back into a train.

And once again, a train drop off signifies Lightning’s entry into Wildlands, a lush countryside where wild Chocobo roam, and windmills and small villages abound.

Finally, we take a look at the Dead Dunes, the arid desert lands of the game world. For those who remember, this is also the setting of a lot of screenshot reveals we’ve been fed the past few months.

I confess to not knowing Japanese, but Square Enix has been generous in sharing game details so we can make safe guesses that they are sharing general details on each area that we have been made privy to. Overall, this was a really cool way to share the game well in advance, in a way. I was also impressed with the new HTML5 site, although I had trouble making it load the first time. I was actually reminded of Platinum Games and Nintendo’s hard work at the gorgeous HTML5 Wonderful 101 website. Hopefully, like Wonderful 101, they will release an English version of all of this as well. You’ll definitely want to hit up the link below and check it out yourself.
