It might not be flying off the shelves in Japan, but Platinum Games' big Wii U-exclusive title, The Wonderful 101, isn’t a project that the team wants to let go of quite yet. Will the team get an actual chance to do more in the universe? Outspoken developer Hideki Kamiya isn’t quite sure yet, but for him, it would be a disappointment to just create this world and cast of characters and never be able to use it all to tell more stories.
"If I get the chance, I would certainly like to make that game,” Kamiya said when asked about a sequel by IGN Benelux. "I really have no idea at this point, but I would love to make a sequel to one of my own games. We put a tremendous amount of work into this game and it would be unfortunate if I would not get the chance to tell a new story with these characters.”
One thing that would bother the creator is the fact that not all of the villains would be able to make a second appearance.
"However, some of the bad guys you beat in this game won’t appear in a sequel. That’s kind of a depressing thought,” he admitted.
Unless sales pick up in places like North America and Europe, don’t feel too confident that you’ll see The Wonderful 102 anytime soon. Platinum is known for unique, engaging experiences, but without the sales backing them up, publishers will likely pass new pitches by.
