Super Robot Wars, Conception II Sneak Into Japanese Top 10, Wonderful 101 Trails Behind

We have mixed numbers from Media Create and Famitsu this time around, but overall, Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Masou Kishin III Pride of Justice and Conception II: Shichisei no Michibiki to Mazuru no Akumu on PlayStation 3 and Vita debuted solidly on the Japanese charts this week, with The Wonderful 101 trailing behind.

Masou Kishin III is a Super Robot Wars side story involving original Namco-Bandai human characters that transform into robots. Conception II is a dating sim/RPG where you woo female NPCs into making Star Children (not an explicit process) to help you in combat. The Wonderful 101 is Platinum’s big superhero themed action game we’ve been covering for a while now.

Of course, the big story here is The Wonderful 101’s poor performance, although the extent of that is in dispute between the two game sales data companies. Depending on who you want to believe, it either hit the lower end of the Top 20 at Number 14, with 5.258 units sold (Media Create), or actually reached the Top 10 at 6,663 units sold, which is between 20-40 % of the allocated total units. If you remember, Nintendo themselves confirmed only 30,000 units would actually be available for the region.

Traditionally, Kamiya-produced games under Clover and Platinum are critical successes, but underperform in the markets, and The Wonderful 101 is facing a harsher climate than the likes of Viewtiful Joe or Okami did. Still, Nintendo and Platinum seems to have pinned its hopes on the US when the game comes out for it on September 15.
