Some enterprising fans were able to bring a camera (presumably off a smartphone) to a demo for South Park The Stick Of Truth and upload it to YouTube. The uploaded video reveals many of the show’s tropes and memes, such as violence and fart jokes, are not only intact, but integrated into the game.
The demo is narrated all throughout, and expounds on the game’s premise, of war between humans, led by Aaron Carter, and Elves, led by Kyle and Stan.
Interestingly enough, there is a simulated social network layer in the game, allowing you to explore other character’s thoughts and motivations, and also an excuse for inventory and game menus. Gameplay is apparently in the classic JRPG mode – explore environments and face enemies in turn based combat.
Remember what I said earlier about the show’s tropes being part of the game? Farts are attacks, and powerful ones to boot. Stan apparently transplanted Cartman’s satellite into his own butt, and uses it as a teleporter. You can lay traps for enemies and watch them get beat up real hard, to laugh at them of course.
Later in the clip, you play Kyle fighting Cartman, and actually get into a fart-off, as pictured below:
The demo ends with a cliffhanger, which you can see for yourself in the video. It seems we should be thankful THQ’s closure did not mean the end of The Stick of Truth. We will have to wait a little longer to get to play it, though, since the game just renewed development. Expect to finally have it in your hands by holiday season next year.
