Wii U Drops to $ 300, Nintendo Formally Announces Wind Waker HD Bundle

August 28, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Nintendo also announces release dates for key Wii U and 3DS games.

Nintendo dropped some bombshells today, and I have to report on the less interesting, but no less important, story. The Wii U is now getting a price drop to $ 299.99, official September 20. Subsequently, The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD Deluxe Set has been formally announced, and is now available for preorder.

The special edition Wind Waker HD Wii U Bundle  will be available on September 20, the same date as the price drop. It will come with the gold-accented GamePad, a fully digital copy of the game, and a digital copy of Hyrule Historia. This whole bundle will also be available for $ 299.99. Current Wii U owners can also buy the game digitally on that date, but if they can wait, a goldfoil retail version will come October 4.

Nintendo has also confirmed release dates for other upcoming Wii U and 3DS releases, September 15 for The Wonderful 101, October 25 for Wii Party U, November 22 for Super Mario 3D World, November 26 for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Holiday for Wii Fit U and Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games. 3DS games The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Mario Party Island Tour.

So, Nintendo has moved release dates around for their key Wii U titles. Most notably, Super Mario 3D World is joining Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze to face the expected fierce competition this November when the Playstation 4 and Xbox One are slated to release.  With Wind Waker HD giving Nintendo a head start, however, they may already have a comfortable lead by then.

Nintendo's official press release adds a few more details. There will be a limited markets tour on some Simon Malls branches for the 2DS, which we have covered here. Gamestop will also have a special edition of the retail version of The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, which comes with a limited edition Ganon figure and will sell for $ 54.99.
