GameStop's CEO Paul Raines has said that the company is expecting the biggest console launch ever this November when both the PS4 and the Xbox One will be released.
Raines commented that the retailer will have a "significant increase" in launch quantities over current-gen systems and that they believe we'll see "the largest console launch in history." However, he didn't say whether he was expecting that accolade to go the PS4 or the Xbox One.
GameStop's president Tony Bartel added that the company's launch allocations are "much stronger" than they were for PS3 and Xbox 360.
While he refrained from offering specific numbers Bartel says GameStop has increased its store launch capacity by 60 per cent. He also declined to state which system had more pre-orders but said that there's 1.5 million people on the PS4 'first to know' list compared to 700,000 on the Xbox One list.
At its gamescom press conference earlier this week Sony announced that the PS4 has been pre-ordered more than one million times to date.
Sony UK and Ireland chief Fergal Gara told Videogamer.com that PS4 pre-orders are "way over and above and beyond the pre-order number at launch day" for the PS2 and PS3.
"The one comment I'll make about the pre-order number is first of all, it's greater than a million, and secondly, the UK represents a very healthy slug of that. We're undeniably seeing a sea change," he added.
"I'm very very pleased with it, so we will be looking at sell outs in areas. We're doing everything we can to secure every last unit … so we an do out very best to meet the demand as it stands for day one and clearly chasing there after.
"It's a little bit of a problem, but it's good problem to have," Gara concluded.
