The Wii U’s Super Smash Bros. title is still a long way off from release, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be teased with new screenshots and character reveals. One of the biggest draws of the series is the creative cast of brawlers and the locations in which they fight, and today, a fresh stage that’s never been featured in the franchise has been shown. It might not be the most popular choice, but Pyrosphere from Metroid: Other M has been revealed through game director Masahiro Sakurai’s Wii U account.
The image appeared on the Miiverse, which is Nintendo’s interactive, online service for the Wii U. Both Bowser and Samus can be seen clashing on a platform surrounded by hot magma, with the hint that “an enemy from Samus's past may appear at any second…”
Stages must be difficult to pick and choose, but it’s really building the roster of characters that Sakurai has compared to actual death.
"The amount of stress I feel, it's almost to the brink of death," Sakurai said to Polygon through a translator. "Because it's not just a matter of me personally thinking this character or that character is going to be in the game; it's that we also have the game balance, animation, graphics and sound to think about in order to make that character fully fleshed out in that universe. I have to think about all of that when I go through this decision-making process."
Hopefully he doesn’t have to experience that sensation too much longer, because the world would just be a better place with a new Super Smash Bros. game.
