Nintendo President Considers Future Moving Away From Home Consoles

January 8, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Nintendo is looking at more avenues for profit.

When it comes to Nintendo, most would think of the various video game consoles and video game titles. However, this name may not be just associated with its line of video game consoles very long as the current president is looking to offer a wider outlook in terms of turning a profit for the company. After all, this is a brand new president to the company after the passing of Satoru Iwata. As a result, the current president, Shuntaro Furukawa, may already have a few other projects in the works that could lead Nintendo into a more profitable name outside of just advertising to video game consoles as their big selling item.

In the past few years, we’ve seen Nintendo make a big change up after the failure of the Nintendo Wii U console. This system failed to capture a wide audience which forced Nintendo to push out their next generation console right away, the Nintendo Switch. This system was a massive success as it offered gamers the ability to take their video game titles on-the-go or connected to a home television display. Likewise, this console was coming with great third-party support to ensure gamers that the latest big title hits would also see a Nintendo Switch platform release, unlike the Nintendo Wii U.

The current president, Shuntaro Furukawa, recently spoke with a Japanese publication known as Nikkei, where it was translated by Nintendo Everything. During the conversation, Furukawa stated that the Nintendo company is looking at technology as it changes which could provide new experiences for the end user. This means that in the future, Nintendo could seek out other entertainment venues that would provide gamers with thrilling experiences without necessarily being a Nintendo developed and produced console.

Already the Nintendo company has a new film in the works for the Mario franchise, mobile smartphone titles along with a theme park from Universal Studios. We’re not ready to say that Nintendo is done crafting up new consoles, but it does seem that the Nintendo name is ready to really open up their IPs and provide new experiences for fans. With all that said, do you think Nintendo is looking to throw away console development anytime soon? Let us know by leaving a comment down below.
