As with past Total War games cities will be very important in Rome 2 – once a settlement falls so does the entire region it occupies but just how do these cities evolve?
The Creative Assembly has released a new series of screenshots (above) showing just how the game's settlements will expand over time.
The city demonstrated here starts off small with only a handful of buildings before growing to include such structures as a colosseum and eventually a race track. The city's walls also spread out and grow larger over time, presumably meaning they're tougher for enemies to breach.
A notable addition to Rome 2 is that armies do not need ships to travel over water. Presumably they have transports which will be at a distinct disadvantage against actual navies.
The Creative Assembly is also making a number of other changes to regions and how armies will operate.
Total War: Rome 2 launches on Steam on September 3rd. The game is already the most pre-ordered in the series' history and doing so will unlock the Greek Culture Pack which adds an extra three playable factions to the game.
