World famous toymaker Kotobukiya has announced a long awaited figure in its Bishoujo line: Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series!
Rendered in 1/7th scale, the Bishoujo series is a very popular toyline for collectors for their build quality and generaly beauty. These minifigures are based on the art of Shunya Yamashita. Yamashita's art does have a sexy quality to them, which may turn some people off, but I think few can deny Yamashita's skill in drawing beautiful women, or in Kotobukiya's dedication to accuracy and detail in rendering his illustrations to sculpture.
On their Facebook page, Kotobukiya describes her as the 'first lady of fighting games', and also mentions her backstory as an Interpol agent out to avenge her parents' deaths. They also bring up her most famous moves, the Lightning Kick and Spinning Bird Kick, although Yamashita actually has her posed executing her close standing roundhouse kick.
Now, the Chun-Li figure itself is actually very interesting for how it has rendered the shapes of the front and back sides of her skirt. Clothing is generally difficult to render in a figure like this, so you can tell that Kotobukiya went further than usual to make a very impressive figure for her.
Street Fighter Chun-Li Bishoujo stands at 8 inches tall and will be available January next year. Thus far, Kotobukiya has also promised a Cammy figure, and have already dabbled in fighting game with their Tekken Bishoujo line, with figures of Asuka, Xiaoyu, Lili, Christine Monteiro, and Jaycee, so even lesser known Street Fighter characters may not be out of the question. I think Kotobukiya would impress core fans if they made a complete set of the Shadowloo Dolls, but this figure is already really good. You can check out more pictures in our gallery below.
