Iwata Searching for ‘Nintendo-like’ Profits for Fiscal Year

August 6, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Nintendo is looking to profit on the Wii U like it has on so many other consoles.

Nintendo isn’t looking to set the world on fire with the Wii U at this moment. After recently posting an operating loss and numbers that showed even the Wii outperforming its more poweful older brother, the Mario maker is simply looking for brighter days in the near future. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata feels like things will only start to look up this fiscal year, and that will be accomplished through bigger, better software.

"Nintendo posted an operating loss for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2013. However, we strive to regain 'Nintendo-like' profits for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014 by providing many people with fascinating games and services," Iwata said.

If he’s looking for the “Nintendo-like profits” that the original Wii saw when it first started taking the world by storm, that’s pretty unlikely at this point for the struggling Wii U. However, Nintendo always manages to turn things around with first-party software that people feel they need to experience, and that’s what Iwata feels his company will deliver soon.

"We continue to make brand-new and unique proposals, and make efforts for the growth of the home entertainment industry with a mission that is to pleasantly surprise people and put smiles on the faces of everyone Nintendo touches," he continued.

Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101 are good starts for the Wii U, but it’ll take some heavy hitters, like Zelda and Mario, to turn this sinking ship into a dual-screened success.
