There will be plenty of third-party products that will appear on both current and next-generation consoles during the end of 2013 and even the first half of 2014. Technically, these games will contain the same campaigns, multiplayer options, and storylines between the two platforms, but consumers have been curious whether the Achievements will be universal between the titles. IGN has reached out to chief Xbox One architect, Mark Whitten, about this exact question, and the answer that was given should be good news to anyone who sits around bragging about their Gamerscore.
“Every game has its own set of achievements, so if you’re playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox 360 and on Xbox One, you can earn a separate set of Gamerscore in each game. But on the Xbox One version, you’re getting a much richer set of features, such as seeing your achievements progress on the Xbox One console, being able to unlock new achievements throughout the year, and earning real prizes inside and outside of the game,” Whitten said. “Xbox One also enables a new concept of challenges, where games will be offering special time-based opportunities to earn various goals and collect the rewards.”
There are plenty of other important questions addressed in the AMA, and it sounds like more will be answered in the coming weeks. With Microsoft flip-flopping on so many of its initial promises, expect to hear many of the console’s features and services clarified before the year is out.
